Nick Cassidy, Superintendent of Holland Public Schools, reflects on Millington as pivotal in his personal and professional development. A dedicated student-athlete, Cassidy fondly recalls how teachers and coaches encouraged his growth in academics and sports.

"The mentorship I received at Millington helped me realize my potential and gave me the confidence to pursue a career in education," Cassidy shares. "I’ve built my leadership philosophy on those values."

Today, as a superintendent, Cassidy focuses on fostering inclusive environments where every student feels supported. He attributes much of this vision to the deep sense of belonging and encouragement he experienced at Millington. "Our schools should feel like a second home, just as Millington always felt for me."

Dr. John VanWagoner’s journey highlights how Millington’s influence extends beyond its borders. Now serving as superintendent of Traverse City Area Public Schools, Dr. VanWagoner oversees the education of more than 9,000 students. In addition to earning a Ph.D. in K-12 Education Leadership from Western Michigan University, Dr. VanWagoner held key positions at the Michigan Department of Education, gaining state and national recognition for his contributions to education policy. Despite his significant achievements, he remains deeply connected to Millington, returning to the community to celebrate its successes and draw inspiration from its spirit.

Jeff Yorke, Superintendent of Hale Area Schools, credits his Millington experience with shaping his leadership style. During high school, he participated in sports, served as Student Council President, and was deeply involved in student organizations. These activities taught him adaptability and the importance of collaboration—traits he now applies daily as a superintendent. Yorke emphasizes that Millington helped him develop a student-centered approach to leadership, where community engagement and a commitment to academic success drive his decisions.

"The opportunities I had at Millington—on and off the field—helped me understand how to connect with others and inspire collective achievement," says Yorke. "I take those lessons with me in every meeting and decision I make."
